Marta Gardolińska

ABOUT

A chamber musician with a baton, Marta Gardolińska feels equally at home conducting orchestras or choirs. Her interest in collaborating with other musicians makes her a naturally gifted accompanist to instrumentalists and singers in solo or opera repertoire, while also being able to shift to symphonic repertoire with ease.

The award-winning polish conductor, Marta Gardolińska has been establishing her name in the classical music scene in her country and abroad as an inspiring and versatile conductor. She has led ensembles such as the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien, the Polish Baltic Frédéric Chopin Philharmonic in Gdansk, Poland, the Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra, Greece, the Symphony Orchestra of Filharmonia Podkarpacka im. A. Malawskiego in Rzeszów, Poland and the Spirit of Europe Orchestra, Baden, Austria. Along with her work as a symphonic conductor, she also has built a solid knowledge of the Viennese tradition thanks to her cooperation with the Johann-Strauss-Operette-Wien company, touring in Germany with the operettas “The Bat” and “The Bird Seller”. With the beginning of 2017 she is taking the position of chief conductor and artistic director of the TU-Orchester Wien. Marta Gardolińska has been chosen the Associate Fellow of the Taki Concordia Conducting Fellowship 2017-2019.

“Marta Gardolińska gelang es, durch ihr sensibles Dirigat Brahms verhaltene Leidenschaft perfekt zu uns ins Publikum herüberzubringen.”

Ingrid Adamiker, Alles Klassik

Driven by high respect for the instrumentalists, Ms. Gardolińska puts an emphasis on the chamber aspect of music making and is striving to inspire rather than dictate in her work with orchestras. This inclusive approach results in honest and truly engaging performances under her baton.

Ms. Gardolińska received her education in some of the most prestigious institutions of Europe and the United States, including the Frédéric Chopin Music University in Warsaw, the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna, the Cabrillo Music Festival and the Pierre Monteux School for Conductors and Orchestral Musicians, in Maine, USA. Some of her mentors include Simone Young, Nicolas Pasquet, Mark Stringer, Yuji Yuhasa, Konrad Leitner, Peter Eötvös and Erwin Ortner. Ms. Gardolińska’s conducting activities have taken her to stages as diverse as the Wiener Konzerthaus and the Golden Hall of Wiener Musikverein, the Baltic Philharmonic Hall in Gdansk, Poland, the Festspielhaus Füssen and the Teatro Peón Contreras in Mérida, Mexico. She has also gained recognition in conducting competitions – in November 2015 she was one of the 10 semi-finalists out of more than 130 participants of the first Antal Doráti International Conducting Competition in Budapest, Hungary. September 2016 brought her an Honourable Mention and the Special Orchestra Prize in the Witold Lutosławski Conducting Competition in Białystok in Poland and in November 2016 she won the 3rd Prize and the Special Orchestra Prize at the Felix Mendelssohn International Conducting Competition in Thessaloniki, Greece. In 2016, Ms. Gardolińska was awarded the title “Outstanding Pole in Austria” in the category “Culture” for her efforts in popularising Polish culture and music outside of the country.

Da ist deutlich die musikalische Handschrift der wirklich ausgezeichneten Dirigentin Marta Gardolinska zu spüren. Sie zeigt ein Geschick und ein musikalisches Verständnis, wie es nicht immer zu finden ist.

This Fall I will be releasing my debut album Transoceanic. Almost autobiographical, Transoceanic is a summary of my artistic and personal life up until the point when it was recorded. For all of this, it is extremely exciting for me to bring this into the world. More details about it coming soon!
